About this Event

Join us for a generative poetry workshop followed by a reading and open mic!

From 1PM to 3PM, poet Emily Hockaday will guide you through writing prompts and examples of poems that blend the natural world and gardening with themes of inner human life, social justice, and more. Walk away with new poems and an introduction to ecological poetry.

After the workshop, Emily Hockaday will read an excerpt from her ecopoetry collection I Dared the Storms to Come. Share your own old or new writing during the following open mic from 3PM to 4PM on the Terrace!

This program is made possible by funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, Statewide Community Regrants Program (formerly the Decentralization program), with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature, and administered by Flushing Town Hall. It is also funded in part with public funds from the Queens Arts Fund, a re-grant program supported by New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by New York Foundation for the Arts.

Location: Visitor and Administation Meeting Room and Terrace
