Poetry in Motion is an innovative event that invites poets, dancers and observers to come together for a unique and spontaneous event.Poetry in Motion is an innovative event that invites poets, dancers and observers to come together for a unique and spontaneous event. Poets will bring their pre-written poems, dancers will bring their expressive movements, and observers will bring their open mind and hearts. Together an improvised performance will be created, blending the power of words with the beauty of movement.
Event flow:
1. Registration and Networking (30 min)- participants arrive and sign in- poets place their names in a hat- dancers place their names in another hat- Everyone mingles, fostering connections and potential collaborations
2. Collaboration overview (15 min)- all participants gather for a brief overview of the event- poets draw names from the hat to determine their dance partners- poets and dancers briefly discuss the emotions, themes, and intentions behind the poems to set the tone for the improvised performances
3. Improvised Performances (60-90min)- a poet is selected at random to perform- poets and dancers take the stage- each poet recites their chosen poem while their selected dancers interpret the words through movement- performances are spontaneous and unrehearsed, allowing for genuine artistic expression and exploration- all dancers have the opportunity to perform with different poets throughout the event
4. Audience interaction (15 min)- following the performances, the audience, comprised of poets, dancers, and other attendees, are invited to share their thoughts and reflections on the collaborations.- open discussion and feedback foster a sense of community and appreciation for the merging of expressions
