Does your heart start to pound when you're about to step up to the microphone and share your poetry with an audience? Does your voice wobble as you begin to speak?

Public speaking itself can be scary, but when you add in the nerves that come with putting your art out into the world, it can be downright daunting. Fortunately, you can overcome this! Join poet Katherine McDaniel for this workshop and reading your poetry for an audience. She'll give you the tips and tricks she's acquired over her career of performing, and you'll walk away ready for your next open mic!

All class participants will be invited to be featured performers at the Writespace October Community Reading

Katherine McDaniel is the founder and editor of the literary and visual arts magazine and arts incubator Synkroniciti. She is a classically trained opera singer and a twenty-year veteran of the acclaimed Houston Grand Opera Chorus. She taught voice lessons for singers for twenty years. She also teaches faerie garden, flower tiara and wreath-making playdates, which are designed to inspire and exercise creativity. In 2012, Katherine had three poems commissioned by Houston Grand Opera for Houston Artists Respond, part of the Home and Place Initiative. Nubia’s Shoes, Yo soy un Corazòn and Drumming were inspired by videos of senior adults at Baker Ripley Community Center in Houston. The poems tell the stories of Latin American women who immigrated to the United States. She has been published in Gleam: Journal of the Cadralor and often reads her poetry at Archway Gallery’s monthly readings.
