Poetic Pages: When Black Poets Speak
Join us for an inspiring evening of storytelling, poetry, and community as we celebrate Black History Month on February 28th, 2025. This free event features a dynamic panel of accomplished poets and creators, offering meaningful discussion, captivating performances, and opportunities to connect with their work.
🌟 Hosted and Curated by Millicent Ansah
Educator, poet, community organizer, and curator of Mocha Mic with Millie, a monthly open mic uplifting Black creatives and fostering unity through art and expression.
📖 Featured Panelists
- Evie Shockley: Poet and scholar envisioning a Black feminist horizon, with books including suddenly we (NAACP Image Award; National Book Award Finalist) and semiautomatic (Pulitzer Prize finalist). Winner of prestigious honors like the Academy Fellowship for Distinguished Poetic Achievement, Evie is also the Zora Neale Hurston Distinguished Professor of English at Rutgers University.
- Khali Raymond (Savage Writer): Newark-based author, poet, and artist with over 60 published works, including Ashes 2 Ashes, Dust 2 Dust. Drawing inspiration from diverse media and Tupac Shakur, Khali brings raw, emotional storytelling to life, with future plans to expand into filmmaking and directing.
- Juanita Graves: Author of Desire My Dream Poetry and Woosah Bitter Sweet Blessings, and founder of Desire My Dream Publications, a Black woman-owned LLC. Dedicated to community engagement and advocacy, Juanita speaks on topics like domestic violence and offers a unique blend of creativity through her herbal tea brand, Pour n’ Life.
