Joti Rockwell presents a free, all-Bach program featuring solo sonatas and a suite on American plucked-string instruments. Music originally written for violin and cello takes new shape on instruments played with picks rather than a bow, including mandolin, mandola, mandocello, steel-string guitar, banjo, and pedal steel guitar.Rockwell is a multi-instrumentalist who performs American roots music, bluegrass, and classical concert music. He has recorded professionally and toured extensively across the United States on guitar, mandolin, and related instruments. In addition, he performs with Pomona’s Balinese gamelan ensemble, Giri Kusuma. He is an associate professor of Music at Pomona College.
