Plenazo featuring Kadencia. Come celebrate the conclusion of Maurice "Tito" Sanabria's Virginia Folklife Apprenticeship with Plena Master Kily Vializ at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery. A Puerto Rican tradition comes to Hardywood following Kadencia’s two performances at the Richmond Folk Festival! Based in Richmond, Kadencia performs plena, a narrative, energetic, and percussive musical genre created in the early 1900s by working-class Puerto Ricans along the island’s southern coastal towns. A plenazo is a community performance, gathering, jam session, and dance circle all-in-one and special guest Kily Vializ, a plenero from Mayagüez, will help lead tonight’s music. Bring your friends, your dance moves, a Folk FestBier, and join us to celebrate the music of Puerto Rico and twenty years of the Richmond Folk Festival.
Schedule: The night will start with a performance by Kadencia's small ensemble. This be followed by an open plena jam session. Bring your güiro, pandereta, and voice. We will also play Puerto Rican bomba so bring your dance moves (piquetes), your scarf or skirt.
