About the Instructor:

Megan Afansev, Studio # 224 at Art Bias, is an educator with a passion for the arts, has been on a creative journey since her early days of sewing and quilting alongside her grandmother in rural South Carolina. Relocating to New York City, she honed her skills working in the fashion industry for renowned brands like Kate Spade and Ralph Lauren, where she specialized in designing children's wear. Alongside her professional endeavors, Megan holds a master’s degree in art education and currently serves as an elementary school teacher, nurturing young minds and fostering a love for art.

At the heart of Megan's work lies an exploration of the intricate relationship between nature, patterns, and place. Drawing inspiration from her walks, hikes, and travels, she endeavors to capture and convey her unique perspective on the beauty of the natural world. Through the skillful use of various mediums and a vibrant color palette, Megan's artwork serves as a visual representation of her personal experiences in different landscapes.

Beyond the visual appeal, Megan aims to infuse her art with deeper meaning. By depicting the natural world, she hopes to foster a sense of kindness, joy, and an appreciation for sustainable practices. Her artistic endeavors extend beyond the studio, as she works to bring these values into her classroom and community, fostering a greater sense of harmony between art, environment, and society. As an art teacher, Megan's dedication to art education allows her to inspire and encourage young learners to explore their creative potential, nurturing their imagination and self-expression.

Through her art, she invites viewers to pause, reflect, and find connection with the patterns and beauty that exist within nature and the places we inhabit. Her work serves as a reminder of the importance of embracing sustainable habits and cultivating a harmonious relationship with our surroundings, while also empowering the next generation to embrace the transformative power of art.
