The PLEASURE DOME returns from a short break with two (well, actually three…) gems of Hong Kong cinema!John Woo's THE KILLER (1989, 35mm, original version with english subtitles) distills the essence of the Heroic Bloodshed subgenre into 110 minutes – pathos, tragedy, and gunfights as poetry of violence. In BEYOND HYPOTHERMIA (1996, 35mm, original version with german subtitles) by Patrick Leung, cold calculation replaces grand gestures: we follow a nameless assassin whose body temperature constantly hovers at a dangerously low 32 degrees, living a dreary life full of functional meaninglessness, until she faces true intimacy for the first time…
In collaboration with the film festival DANGEROUS ENCOUNTERS - Hong Kong im Rausch, taking place the same weekend, we’ve decided to put a cherry on top: an infamous CAT III-banger will be screened as a third film to make sure everyone’s knocked out by the end of the evening. Once again, the PLEASURE DOME might require a deliberate disregard of your own moral compass. This summer may finally have us sweating, but that Hong Kong heat is something else entirely!
