Play Dirty: A Two-Part Ceramic Hand-Building Mug Workshop

Join Tara from Dumb B Ceramics in the back room of Pressland General where we'll play dirty and have some good clean fun!

In this two-part course you'll have hands-on guidance through building & decorating your own useable ceramic take-out cup (or mug!) with mid-fire clay.

Our first evening, we'll spend 2.5 hrs learning about mid-fire clay, what it takes to hand-build a structurally sound, food-safe ceramic vessel with slabs, and get a little messy!

The following week, we'll spend 2.5 hrs learning about surface design in clay through decorating our cups using carving, attachments, and underglaze techniques.

Finished pieces will be taken to be fired, clear glazed, and available for pick-up 4 weeks after your final session.

What's Included?:

• All materials including clay & underglaze colours for your use
• assortment of hand tools to use for decorating, carving, scoring
• hands on professional instruction on how to ensure a successful final piece
• bisque & clear glaze firing to be completed by your facilitator after the final workshop

**While this work-shop is considered "ALL AGES", those under the age of 14 are expected to be accompanied by a participating adult.

About your Facilitator:

Tara Gibson (she/her) is a Fraser Valley artist wtih a passion for creativity and its ability to facilitate a greater connection both within oneself and with others. Since starting ceramics over a decade ago, her path has brought her to a professional life working wtih clay as a teacher & technician, and creating art under her personal brand, Dumb B Ceramics, in her spare time. Dumb B Ceramics is an extension of Tara's personal ethos: while many things in life (like ceramics) require care & attention to detail- it doesn't always need to be that serious and she's here to be a little silly and have fun.
