About this Event
This 90-minute symposium offers a range of perspectives on two extended extracurricular programs designed and implemented by Gloucester's School Resource and Community Impact Officers. Specifically, 2023 NASRO SRO of the year, Peter Sutera, and his outstanding colleagues Joseph Parady, Brendan Chipperini, and Michael Scola will discuss how their popular SRO_Gaming and Youth Anglers fishing programs came to be and how they believe they are able to more holistically care for their community through them They will be joined by youths positively impacted by the programs and by Dr. Joy Dangora Erickson who will share preliminary research findings from her study framed by philosopher Nel Noddings's ethics of care theory, exploring the ways in which the officers care for children and, in turn, the larger community. The officers' extracurriculars and the study are significant because the programs are unique to Gloucester and SRO extended extracurriculars are not represented in the scholarly literature.
Doors open at 5:00 for refreshments prior to the symposium in the Judge Science Center Lobby. Please come join us!
