About this Event
The David Suzuki Foundation, in partnership with the Rewilding Arts Collective, Sustainability Office of Fine Arts, UrbaNature, FOFA Gallery and CRUST (Ceramics Reimagined Using Sustainable Techniques) invites you to Plants As Allies, an evening exploring the creative, ecological, and social possibilities of working with plants.
This interspecies gathering brings together artists, activists, and researchers working on rewilding and sustainability throughout Montreal, offering a unique space for dialogue, collaboration, and inspiration.
Program
4:00 PM – The Lawn: From Monoculture to Co-Evolution
Join Italian author and curator Dr. Giovanni Aloi and Canadian biologist and professor Dr. Emma Despland as they examine the ideological, cultural, and environmental implications of lawns. The discussion will explore:
- Lawns as symbols of monoculture and control
- Co-evolutionary relationships with soil and plant life
- New ways of imagining our connection to land
5:00 – 7:00 PM – Reception & Partner Presentations
Enjoy wine and appetizers while connecting with partners and participants. Short, informal presentations will highlight:
- Sustainable material practices in art and design
- Sustainable curation and eco-conscious exhibition strategies
- Rewilding education and community engagement practices
