About this Event
Planets Within by Lisa Eve Cheby listens deeply into the universe. In these personal poems, Cheby leads us on a journey from the root chakra to the crown chakra through each planet, back to our earth, moon, and sun, and then launches us out to the fringes of our knowing. A playful and precise use of word choice grounds these planetary poems in current personal and societal issues for which Cheby asks us to imagine new possibilities, literal and metaphorical.
About The Poet:
Lisa Eve Cheby, poet, librarian, and daughter of Hungarian immigrants, has three chapbooks with Strikethrough Press. Her fourth chapbook, Planets Within, is available from Jamii Publications. Elizabeth Hoover is the author of the archive is all in present tense, winner of the 2021 Barrow Street Book Prize. She received the Pat Holt Prize for Critical Art Writing from Lambda Literary and has published creative nonfiction in the North American Review, the Southeast Review, and StoryQuarterly. She is an assistant professor of English at Webster University in Saint Louis where she teaches such classes as Genderqueer Frankenstein, Archival Poetics and LGBTQ+ Literature.
Daria E. Topousis is a fiction and creative nonfiction writer whose work explores the intersection of culture, history, and the moments that change us. Her recent work has appeared in Calyx Press and Inlandia: A Literary Journey.
Daisy Elizeth Magallanes (she/they) is the proud Chicana daughter of migrant parents, Emerita and Ramiro Magallanes, from the sacred Caxcan land of Tlaltenango, Zacatecas. She is a Pushcart-nominated writer, translator, and educator whose work has been featured in Acid Verse, Brevity, Black Warrior Review, Brooklyn & Boyle, Huizache, Hypertext Review, and the Kenyon Review. Their poetry has been internationally exhibited in CDMX. They served as the managing editor at Huizache.
