Mental Illness and Money Issues: Legal Fundamentals for EA Professionals

About this Event

Objectives:1. Participants will recognize, name, and contextualize distinct consumer law issues that arise withinthe context of supportive relationships between employee clients and relatives or friends withserious mental illness.2. Participants will be familiar with information resources and community resources that they canrefer clients to when dealing with consumer law issues involved with banking, debts, and moneymanagement.3. Participants will be aware of potential liabilities associated with financial components ofcaregiving, in order to incorporate those considerations into counseling sessions.4. Participants will be able to explain the relationship between executive functioning and fulfillingconsumer-related legal obligations.

Linda Tashbook, Esq. Licensed attorney, Law Librarian at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, author of Family Guide to Mental Illness and the Law (Oxford University Press, 2019).


CREDITS:

The Pittsburgh EAPA Chapter offers the following continuing education credits for attendees at the monthly meetings: 2 PDHs (Professional Development Hours for the CEAP credential), 2 CEUs (Continuing Education Units for the LSW, LCSW, LPC and LMFT credentials), and 2 PCB Approved Education for the Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) credential.

CEAP and CAC certificates are available at each meeting. CEU certificates will be mailed to attendees by the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work. These credit hours satisfy requirements for LSW/LCSW, LMFT, and LPC biennial license renewal. For information on social work continuing education please visit socialwork.pitt.edu/continuing-ed.

FEES AND REGISTRATION:

Attendance fees are included in an EAPA membership. Attendance for a one-time guest is free unless one desires PDH/CEU credits for which there is a $20 charge. If you are not a member of EAPA the cost for CEUs is $20.
