About this Event

Where do you go when you have finished your masterpiece? Who do you give it to? How do you get your manuscript to the top of the pile?

Dorothy knows the ups and downs of the industry all too well, and as the author of 18 bestsellers in addition to hosting her highly acclaimed podcast The Happy Author in which she guides listeners through her life in publishing, she is almost too qualified for this workshop.

If you are an established, budding or procrastinating writer then this is the place for you to get stuck in and take your project to the next place.

Dorothy Koomson

Dorothy Koomson is an award-winning, global bestselling author and journalist whose books have been translated into more than 30 languages, with sales that exceed 2 million copies in the UK alone. She was featured on the 2021 Powerlist as one of the most influential Black people in Britain, appeared in GQ Style as a Black British trailblazer, and is a judge for the 2022 Women’s Prize for Fiction. Dorothy uses her platform to support new writers and hosts ‘The Happy Author’ podcast. Dorothy lives in Brighton (well, Hove, actually) and the city is an ever-present character in her novels. Her latest book, the Sunday Times bestseller I Know What You’ve Done, is out now in paperback. Her next book, My Other Husband, will be published in hardback on 18th August by Headline.

Venue Accessibility

Wheelchair Accessibility

Access to our shop is through a large door (91cm wide) and a ramp (77W x 48L x 12H with 240kg max weight) can be placed for wheelchair access. If you require assistance or the ramp to enter the shop, please ring the doorbell that is located on the right hand side of the front door and one of our staff will come and help you.

The ground floor is wheelchair accessible with enough room to turn around in and we are also very happy to move around furniture to accommodate any spatial needs. We regret to inform you that our basement level and garden is inaccessible to wheelchairs or those with mobility restrictions. We have seating available throughout the shop and stools to access higher shelves. Our till is on the ground floor near the door and we are very happy to locate and retrieve any books or items that you would like to see, please just ask one of our staff members.

Toilet

Our gender-neutral toilet is located on the basement level, which sadly due to structural restrictions, is not wheelchair accessible. The basement is accessed via 10 stairs with a handrail on the right hand side. We have on-site baby changing facilities in our bathroom.

Concessions

If you would like to come but are unable to purchase a ticket please feel free to contact us at [email protected] and we will see what we can do.
