#piratesofftheplank - A global movement
On Friday 1 May 2026, we step onto the plank together — not in fear, but in solidarity — wearing the patch as a visible commitment to mental health and wellbeing and suicide prevention.
By sharing a photo using #PiratesOffThePlank, we acknowledge that invisible struggle exists in every community — and that awareness must lead to responsible action. Posting a photo with the #piratesofftheplank hashtag places you on our pirate ship for the world record attempt.
This is a global participation day.
It is also a structured scholarship campaign operating under Pumicestone Passage Pirates Inc.
Participation is open to everyone.
Physical patch distribution scales in line with funding raised.

What the Patch Represents
The patch slightly alters perception. It requires awareness. It makes something visible. It symbolises a truth that affects us all: Many people carry invisible challenges. Anxiety. Depression. Grief. Trauma. Isolation. Wearing the patch does not simulate mental illness. It is a humble act of acknowledgement. We make the invisible visible — and we support structured mental health literacy in our communities.
Why This Matters
Across the world:
• Psychological distress continues to rise.
• Suicide remains one of the leading causes of death among young people.
• Social connection and mental health literacy are recognised protective factors.
Awareness alone is not enough.
Communities need trained facilitators and governed systems that strengthen understanding and early support.
#PiratesOffThePlank funds that structure.
Our 2026 Goal
Raise $70,000 AUD
to fully fund two Internal Family Systems (IFS) Level 1–3 facilitator training pathways. These 2 people will then facilitate #piratesofftheplank circles. One in Moreton Bay and one on the Sunshine Coast.
All funds are:
• Held in a restricted scholarship ledger
• Released only upon committee approval
• Paid directly to accredited training providers
• Reported publicly through milestone updates
This initiative builds capacity.
It does not provide therapy or replace clinical services.
What is IFS?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic model that views every human being as a system of protective and wounded inner parts guided by a core Self. It teaches that the mind is naturally multiple—and that this multiplicity is healthy—because, like members of a family, inner parts can be pushed into extreme roles but also have valuable inherent qualities. IFS helps people access their undamaged, compassionate Self, which knows how to heal, and from that inner leadership, understand and transform their parts, fostering both inner and outer connectedness.

What is a Pirate Circle?
A Pirate Circle is a small, weekly group facilitated by a fully trained Internal Family Systems (IFS) facilitator.
Each Circle provides:
• Guided emotional reflection
• Structured conversation
• Practical self-understanding tools
• Accountable peer support
Pirate Circles are not crisis services and do not replace clinical care. They are structured, community-based spaces designed to strengthen mental health literacy, deepen connection, and support long-term wellbeing. Through consistent guided support and early awareness, Pirate Circles aim to contribute to stronger communities and reduce the isolation that often surrounds psychological distress.

Schools, sporting clubs, workplaces and community groups are encouraged to participate in a way that suits them.
You may:
• Host a small fundraiser
• Pass around a gold coin donation
• Run a local activation event
• Collect voluntary contributions
Funds raised can be transferred directly to the #piratesofftheplank scholarship fund. Small collective efforts create meaningful impact. An activation toolkit is available to support safe and compliant fundraising.
