🌟 SYNOPSIS
Our Puerto Rican superhero is back!
PiraguaMan, along with his brave instructor, travels through time to rescue crucial moments in Puerto Rican history. Through this play we honor:
🔥 Maroon women and the Women who sheltered them, 1840,
🔥 The Jíbaro resistance in Lares in 1868,
🔥 Female Defenders of the Puerto Rican flag in 1950,
PiraguaMan reminds us that true heroism is born from the memory, culture, and heart of the people.
Our community theatre musical, written by Tekina-eirú Maynard, comes alive with original music and dance, and Boricua Warrior Arts Cocobalé and Calindá — sticks and machetes fighting — to honor our forgotten heroes. It features original Jibaro, Salon (Mazurka), Afro-Boricua Plena and Bomba, and Taino music with authentic instruments.
Our production will take place on December 13 (6:30pm) and 14 (3:00pm), 2025 at the Boyd Vance Theatre at the Carver Museum, 1165 Angelina Street in East Austin, TX.
