Focusing on the textures and colour, we will take a closer look at hedgerows and woodland, recording what we see in more detail.

Using a range of media and mark-making tools, you’ll create expressive interpretations of our local landscape at this time of year.

We will work with materials like Gesso, Acrylic paint and ink. As it is studio-based, we will also be working from photographs and natural items such as leaves, ferns and berries, which I will bring into the studio.

Pippa Ashworth is a professional landscape painter who produces texturally rich representatives of landscapes through an ever-changing relationship between observation and invention. She works primarily in water-based media but employs various homemade and found drawing and painting tools to build a vocabulary of marks.

Light and colour are also strong elements of her work, which she initially explores through photographs and sketchbooks and uses as inspiration for her work. Pippa has exhibited her work throughout the north of England, including Harlow Carr, Harrogate, Just Makers, Rippon, Huddersfield Art Gallery, Dean Clough, Halifax, Millyard Gallery, Uppermill.

• Heavy cartridge paper A3 or A2
• Acrylic paint Primaries plus black and white. If you have others bring them too
• Palette knife preferably a triangular one
• Old credit card or cut up card
• Flat paint brushes
• White gesso if you have it
• Any drawing media, crayons, pencil, fine liner. Any inks if you have them.
• All materials are available to purchase through Calder Arts on the day. Pippa will provide gesso so a donation towards that would be appreciated if used.

Calder Art will provide the following materials for the workshop:

• Table Top Easel 13 x 17 12mm Warp-resistant MDF Board.

Minimum numbers apply for courses to run. Payment is due in full at the time of booking, either through the shop, phone or online. All sales are final unless transferring to another class in which a price difference will be paid. Full refunds will be given if the courses cannot take place. If you cannot make the classes for any reason no refunds will be given. We will allow the cost of tickets to be transferred to an alternative workshop (if space is available) but this request must be made at least 30 days before the start of the event you wish to transfer from, in such circumstances please give us a call at Calder Art Supplies 01484 422991.

Refreshments are available all day (tea, coffee, biscuits etc.) and there will be a lunch break of approximately one hour.

There are plenty of local shops and cafes in the area within close walking distance from the arcade.

Alternatively, you may bring your own lunch.

There is lift access to the studio on the second floor for those with mobility issues. Toilets are located close by on the studio level, however there is a small flight of stairs to access these. Alternatively, there are also toilets located on one level on the ground floor.

The nearest car park available to the venue is the multi-storey next to Huddersfield bus station. Levels 4, 5 & 6 - Monday to Saturday (8am to 6 pm)

£4.10 for up to 5 hours

£6.50 up to 6 pm.

After 6pm £1.60 per visit
