Join us for the first installment of our 2024/2025 Pub Science series: "Pioneering Blue Water Diving and the Discovery of Marine Snow" by Dr. Alan Shanks.
As undergraduates, Alan Shanks and his partner in insanity Jonathan Trent didn't let the risks and dirth of experience, information, predecessors and best practices prevent them from getting down. Wayyy down. To the directionless sensory deprivation tank that is blue water diving in the Pacific ocean. But, much to their horror, flakes of white stuff, resembling snow, kept interfering with their visibility of the unfathomable fathoms.
Alan will share his first-hand account of early blue water diving and the discovery of marine snow off the coast of central California in the early 1970s. We can share a pint and toast Alan's survival past young adulthood
