Pink lake Torrevieja + Varadero beach

The Pink Lake of Torrevieja in the south of the Costa Blanca is part of the Las Salinas de Torrevieja nature reserve. Its pink colour is caused by salt-loving bacteria and microalgae. This unique ecosystem also affects the food chain: small crustaceans feed on the algae, turn pink, and are eaten by flamingos, which also become pink.
Nearby, Playa Varadero in Santa Pola is a popular Blue Flag beach known for its lively atmosphere, sports facilities, and summer events, including a major open-water swimming race from Tabarca to Santa Pola.
