Hello Everyone,The Pack’s Pinewood Derby race day is three weeks away and I wanted to share some additional details and reminders for the event.
• Race Day is Saturday, February 7th. Doors will open at 8:30 AM for voting, and races will begin by 9:15 AM. This is a Class A event, so please make sure your Scout is dressed for success and speed.
• Car check in and inspections will take place the evening before—6:00–7:15 PM on February 6th, in the Alleluia Church Rec Room (our current Pack meeting location). Please bring your car(s) during this window so we can inspect them and place them in the “garage” for racing the next morning.
• Please review the car rules (PWD Inspection Checklist can be found in your email).
In particular:
o Cars must weigh 5.0 ounces or less.
o All four wheels must touch the ground within 1/16” (we will use a coin to measure).
o Your Scout’s assigned car number must be visible on the top of the car. Please see the attached pdf for car number assignments.
There will be an inspection process to ensure all cars meet the rules. Cars that do not pass may be disqualified if they cannot be repaired before race day.
• If a car does not pass inspection, we will give you the opportunity to retrieve and fix the car, if possible.
• Need help? Troop 889 is hosting a Pinewood Derby Workshop at their Troop meeting on Monday, January 26th at 7:00 PM. They meet at Bednarcik Junior High School at 3025 S Eola Rd, Aurora, IL 60503. Signup: https://forms.gle/vtepeiwVxjDHmmGZ7
All cars will be on display in the “garage” when you arrive on race day. Voting for “Scout’s Favorite” and “Parent’s Favorite” will be available before races begin, so please enjoy checking out the creativity and vote for your favorites 9:00 AM on the 7th.
If you know your Scout will not be bringing a car to race, please let me know so we can adjust the race schedule and entries.
