About this Event

REGISTRATION AVAILABLE BEGINNING AUGUST 2ND

Chicago for Chicagoans is excited to welcome you back for another exploration of Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood! Co-led by Blanca Torres, lifelong Pilsen resident, this tour highlights the history, architecture, landmarks, and gentrification struggles of this iconic neighborhood.

Beginning at the 18th Street Pink Line Station, the tour will explore the community's infancy as a Slavic melting pot neighborhood (Plzeň), its 1960s transformation into a Latinx area, and the incredible work of nonprofits and community adovcates that built the neighborhood we all know today. The rich history of Pilsen is one that highlights the stories of immigrants, celebrates the colorful contributions of artists, and dives into a spectacular variety of architecture from working class cottages to opulent cathedrals. After the tour, participants are encouraged to grab a pastry at longstanding bakery Panaderia Nuevo Leon, or stop for a cold treat at Nevería El Sabor de México!

Please note: this tour will be conducted in English. Are you a bilingual resident of Pilsen interested in helping us create a Spanish-language version of the tour? We'd love to have you work with us — email us!

Chicago for Chicagoans happily exists as a "pay-what-you-can" tour service. We are a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit that creates inclusive walking tours by & for Chicago residents, designed to represent the histories of all Chicagoans.
