Pierce Pettis began his long career as a writer/artist at the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Alabama and later as a staff songwriter for Polygram/Universal Music in Nashville. Often called “a songwriter’s songwriter” his works have been covered by artists ranging from Garth Brooks and Dion to Joan Baez and Art Garfunkel. Pettis' fifth album for Compass Records Group (Nashville), "That Kind of Love" (2009), received rave reviews from XM/Sirius Satellite Radio, Paste Magazine, Performing Songwriter, American Songwriter, The (London, UK) Sunday Express, Image Quarterly . . . to name a few. More recently, “New Agrarians” —a co-effort with Kate Campbell and Tom Kimmel was released in November of 2014. “Father’s Son”, Pettis’ new solo project for Compass Records Group, was released January of 2019 and has garnered widespread critical praise in the US, UK and Europe. To his Levitators community, Eli Lev is known as a Global Ambassador of Good Vibes, and everyday he honors his greater calling: uplifting open-hearted folks around the world through song.
Today, Eli is sharing one of his most personal and enlightening projects, a three-part music release series in which Eli relates hard-earned wisdom from his outer geographical and inner spiritual expeditions. The trilogy commences with the unflinchingly optimistic folk-pop EP, Present Journey, out June 26th, 2024. Look for the revelatory releases Past Lives and Future Myths to come further on down the dirt road.
With one foot in the traditions of conscious folk music and another foot in modern pop production, Eli stands firmly on his own ground. His earnest, enlightened, and invigorating folk-pop has garnered favorable comparisons to Jason Mraz, Ed Sheeran, Noah Kahan, Jack Johnson, and John Denver.
Eli grew up in the diverse suburb of Silver Spring, Maryland where a blending of incongruous backgrounds made an indelible impact on his pan-culture perspective. He would go on to explore other countries and cultures through teaching eighth grade English on a reservation in the Northern Arizona town of Shonto, and later working and living in Andorra and Israel. Along the way, Eli earned his Master’s Degree in English Education from Bloomington, Indiana.
Immersing himself in the Indigenous culture and its community while teaching English on the Navajo Nation, Eli felt a call to dedicate his professional life to service. Yet, it would be years later when his path became clear while on a two-week solo beach retreat to Sayulita, Mexico with just his guitar. There, Eli had something of a spiritual awakening.
