Pictures of Postwar Portage County

Join us for a unique look at Stevens Point's past! Using images from the Portage County Historical Society’s ongoing digitization of negatives from the Stevens Point Journal, the program focuses on the year 1948, when the main collection starts.
This is a very interesting period for local history with many transitions underway. WWII is over, but families are still burying their dead. The Depression is seemingly over and the economy is shifting from scarcity to abundance, with refrigeration replacing ice boxes. Indoor plumbing is far from universal and rural schools are the norm.
This presentation will be given by PCHS volunteer Andy Barnett, who is spearheading these digitization efforts.
