It's that time of year again! The Picnic in the Dark is an annual renegade party that celebrates light and playfulness. It asks, "What if we took all the fun and games of a picnic in the park and did it at night?"
What to expect at PitD:
- A silent disco with an all-star lineup of local DJs across 2 different channels.
- An illuminated twist on many of your favorite lawn games - badminton, bocci ball, cornhole, frisbee, and more.
- Free grilled cheese sandwiches for everyone, with a GF option.
- Every year we get drop-in art installations - many of which are featured in the Portland Winter Light Festival.
Bring your LED toys and games, your picnic set up, your sparkle and joy!

Do it! You are highly encouraged to set up and show off your light-based art. Just be sure to have a leave-no-trace plan.

Q: Where is this happening?
A: In a park in SE Portland. It's NOT the same park as the last 5 years - that one is under construction for a new skate park. We'll update with the exact location a few days before the event.
Q: What does it cost?
A: It's free to show up and play the games and check out the art and eat grilled cheese sandwiches and meet great people. If you want to dance to sick beats in the silent disco, you can rent a pair of headphones (it's usually $10). The proceeds pay for the DJs and the grilled cheese ingredients!
Q: I want to get involved! How can I help?
A: Amazing, we can always use more volunteers for setup and teardown - and for making grilled cheese sandwiches! Just send a message to Juliana or Colten and we'll add you to the team.
Q: Can I bring my own speakers and blast them?
A: Please don't. We'd rather not attract too much attention from the neighbors.
Q: What if I need to poop?
A: In previous years there was a Taco Bell open late and in convenient walking distance. This year, we recommend you get your pooping done before coming out.
Q: Is this a LEAVE NO TRACE event?
A: Yes! Please be good stewards of our parks and haul out anything you bring in.
Q: What if I don't like using Facebook?
