AN OLD FOLK PICNIC?The hugely popular folk music band ‘Shades of Simon’ will be returning to Flatford Mill for the 3rd year running in July 2025 for what will almost certainly be yet another sell out performance of their highly’ acclaimed theatre style show ‘the Paul Simon Story’.
Flatford Mill is a renowned National Trust beauty spot just off the A12 in the heart of Constable country on the Essex/ Suffolk border. The concert is held in the garden area on the banks of the River Stour against the backdrop of the beautifully perserved 18th Century Old Granary building- an absolutely idyllic spot for a picnic!
People are welcome to bring their own picnic food and drink plus garden chairs or rugs. In addition, the National Trust cafe on site will be open for tea, coffee and snacks and bottled alcoholic drinks. Free parking and toilet facilities nearby.
The show is performed in tribute to Paul Simon as one of best songwriters of his generation and blends an engaging narration, exceptional musicianship from the 5-piece band, and authentic renditions of the best of his songs from his time in Simon & Garfunkel in the 60’s (Homeward Bound, Sound of Silence, Bridge over troubled water etc) through to his Graceland tour in the 1980’s (You can call me Al).
The band is comprised of professional level musicians who all share a love for Paul Simon's music and get together each Summer to do a limited number of Performances of 'The Paul Simon Story' at selected venues which have ranged from the majestic Knebworth House (home of many of the original 1970’s pop festivals!), picnic concerts for the National Trust at Wimpole Hall, Scotney Castle and Flatford Mill, and shows at provincial theatres and arts centres throughout the East of England. You can read unsolicited testimonials on our website at shadesofsimon.com
