About this Event
Celebrate the Spring Festival season with a vivid piano program inspired by Chinese folk song and opera. Pianist Yingqi Wang performs beloved works by Jianzhong Wang (1933–2016)(王建中), including selections from Five Yunnan Folk Songs(《云南民歌五首》), Red Flowers Blooming All Over the Mountain(《山丹丹花开红艳艳》), Embroidering the Golden Plaque(《绣金匾》), and the sparkling showpiece A Hundred Birds Paying Respect to the Phoenix(《百鸟朝凤》). The evening also features Zhang Zhao’s Pi Huang (b. 1964)(张朝《皮黄》), a dramatic work influenced by traditional Chinese opera gestures and colors.
This recital includes brief, audience-friendly introductions to help you listen for the stories, regional styles, and instrumental imitations embedded in the music. No prior knowledge needed—just come enjoy an energetic, colorful concert that blends tradition with concert-piano brilliance.
Program: Jianzhong Wang(王建中) • Zhang Zhao(张朝)
Duration: 60 minutes
