Piano and Organ Masterworks

Internationally acclaimed pianist Sandro Russo brings two of Franz Liszt’s most important works to Smithfield in a program exploring the composer’s visionary approach to the piano and organ.

The evening opens with the Piano Sonata in B minor, one of the central masterpieces of the piano repertoire. The program then moves to the organ for Liszt’s Fantasy and Fugue on the chorale “Ad nos, ad salutarem undam,” a monumental work that demonstrates the composer’s revolutionary approach to the instrument.

Praised for his “sparkling virtuosity” and described by pianist Lowell Liebermann as “a musician’s musician, and a pianist’s pianist,” Russo has performed in major venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Konzerthaus Berlin, and Salle Cortot in Paris. A Steinway Artist and noted interpreter of Liszt, he brings both technical command and a deep musical understanding to this demanding repertoire.
