It is the ratio of the circumference (perimeter of a circle) to its diameter (distance from one side of a circle to the other through the center).

The ratio comes out to 3.14159265358……. but most people use 3.14 when rounding!

Since the date becomes 3.14, we celebrate Pi Day on March 14th and you're invited!
