About this Event

Who should attend Day 1

This is Day 1 of the two days Practice Educator Course for physiotherapists who have not completed any Practice Educator Training.

Before you attend Day 1 you will need to be:

A practising physiotherapist within the NHS or with a private/voluntary organisation.

Registered with the UK Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC).

Be located within the Yorkshire and Humber Region or East Midlands or West Midlands. Beyond these UK regions depends on the possibility of placing one of our physiotherapy students with you. In this case please do contact [email protected] first, before registering.

Only in exceptional circumstances are our physiotherapy students placed outside the UK. If you need more information please do contact [email protected] first, before completing a booking form.

Physiotherapy Practice Educator Course content

The course comprises:

Day 1 - Introduction to the role of a Practice Educator

Physiotherapy student placement with you - work with the student and their visiting tutor to gain necessary practical experience and be involved in the assessment process. You will need to arrange your student placement via your Team Manager and Student Placement Coordinator at your NHS site, or with a leading member of staff within your organisation who is the main contact with our placements team and who will be involved in the coordinating the student's daily activities, possibly along other members of staff.

Day 2 - review of your placement reflections with your peers and any additional information to round-off the course.

An integral part of the course is the electronic workbook which will be emailed to you about a week before you attend Day 1. You will use the electronic workbook throughout the course and when you receive it you should save it on the device you plan to use for the course.

During your work with your student you should aim to keep in mind the reflections' headings in your electronic workbook and seek and observe opportunities to record activities that may match one or more of these. Doing this will help to draw the student out and will further enrich the placement both for them and for you.

Record your reflections while they are still fresh in your mind; these will form an important part of your peer assessment on Day 2, leading towards a successful and rewarding completion of the course.

How Day 1 of the course will be delivered

The Physiotherapy Academic Team have opted to deliver Day One of the course in person at the Sheffield Hallam Collegiate Campus.

On completion of the course

After attending Day 2 you can receive, by email, a certificate to acknowledge that you have successfully completed the Physiotherapy Practice Educator course. Please email [email protected] if you would like this certificate. Please ensure that you give your Team Manager a copy of your certificate as evidence of your having completed the course and for recording your CPD.

Physiotherapy Practice Educator Updates

As a qualified Physiotherapy Practice Educator, you will need to attend a two hours update session every two years to maintain your qualification. Do ensure that you make a note of the issue date of your course completion certificate and keep it somewhere that you can easily find it e.g., an electronic diary is a good place.

Dates for up and coming training courses and update sessions will be posted on the College's website for physiotherapists. You can also contact the course and update admin at [email protected] for the dates.

Continued self-directed learning

For members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, there is a lot of very useful and practical information on their website under Members Resources. In addition, the Physiotherapy Academic Team at SHU will be able to give you guidance if there is something specific that you would like to expand your skills in.
