About this Event
This meeting is a 'matchmaking' event, bringing together expert groups from the photonic metasurface and quantum communities who can exploit existing knowledge to rapidly realise new concepts, and thus seed grant applications using photonic metasurfaces to realise quantum applications.
What is the purpose?
Photonic metasurfaces have matured over the last few years to the point where they can deliver precise custom static or switchable electromagnetic fields to act as an enabling technology for applications that were previously unfeasible. It is at this point where a clear identification of the areas that could most benefit most from this new approach is needed to deliver the greatest benefit of the technology and capitalise on its potential. In this meeting we aim to begin a series of discussions between the Photonic Metasurface and Quantum communities to identify the most fruitful areas of collaboration and build links between researchers/research groups on each side that are most capable of delivering this work to produce the most significant outcomes.
This meeting is organised between the UK Metamaterials Network (UKMMN) special interest group on ‘Photonic Metasurfaces’, and the Institute of Physics (IOP) special interest groups ‘Optical’, ‘Quantum Electronics and Photonics’ and ‘Quantum Optics, Quantum Information and Quantum Control’. In this meeting we will have speakers that will clearly present a realistic view of the potential of photonic metasurfaces and the current state-of-the-art and needs of the quantum community. By bringing together researchers from both sides we aim to initialise collaboration and generate discussion groups that will tackle the most significant problems in the respective fields. This meeting will lay the platform for ongoing collaborative work supported by the groups from the UKMMN and the IOP over the next few years to make sure this timely opportunity is not missed.
