The Severn Valley Railway have teamed up with Lee Chapman of Chappers Photography, an experienced photographer and fully qualified lecturer in adult education. In the Heritage Railway Photography Workshop, you will learn more about the theory behind photography and useful tips and tricks, before you put your skills to the test in a range of settings, scenarios and cameos in and around the railway.This full-day experience is a great opportunity for photographers of every level to enhance your current set of skills – no previous knowledge is required. Whether you are just starting out, or you’ve already got some experience and want to brush up on your skills, – this hands-on workshop will give you the chance to learn what your camera can do, and develop as a photographer.
Your day will start at Kidderminster Station at 11am where you will meet the course tutor who will deliver a brief introduction to the basics of re-enactment and railway photography. Here, we will meet up with our period-dressed reenactors who will be working with us throughout the day. Our reenactors will pose next to the station buildings whilst we await the incoming trains and work with us to capture the spirit of 1940s travel.
On board the train, we head out along the line to Arley, experiencing the nostalgia of vintage train travel, with our reenactors posed in situ. At Arley, we leave the train for an on-location shoot around the station; here you can make use of the air raid shelter and platforms for more unique photography opportunities.
After our visit to Arley, it’s back on the train to Highley to visit The Engine House for a lunch break. After lunch, you will be able to use the historic exhibits, including the Royal Mail carriage, as backdrops for some more unique photography opportunities with our reenactors.
On the return journey back to Kidderminster, having snapped some shots before boarding at Highley, you will have chance to review some of your images and discuss them with the tutor.
