Photography Discovery Workshop with Nick Archer (Nottingham)
About this Event
Take your photography further — and start making images that actually feel alive.
VENUE: Kawfee Speciality Coffee, Nottingham — followed by City Centre Photo Walk
You know how to use your camera. You understand exposure, you can read the light, you’ve got the technical side covered — but something’s still missing. Your images feel competent but flat. The composition works, the settings are right, but the life isn’t quite there.
Photography Discovery is a four-hour session designed for exactly that gap.
Suitable for DSLR, mirrorless, and smartphone photographers with a working understanding of camera fundamentals.
New to photography or still finding your feet with the basics? Photography Fundamentals is also available — see my other Eventbrite listings.
About the workshop
Discovery is deliberately small and deliberately bespoke. We begin with an hour of theory — not technical theory, but the harder stuff: how to see before you shoot, how to find the human element in a scene, and why some images have presence, and others don’t. Then three hours out in Nottingham together, working on your eye in real locations with real feedback as you go.
What’s covered
Part 1 — Seeing, Not Just Shooting
How to approach a scene with intention. The difference between a technically correct image and one with genuine presence. Understanding what makes an image feel inhabited rather than observed — and how to diagnose that before you press the shutter, not after.
Part 2 — Urban Confidence & The Guided Photo Walk
Three hours out in Nottingham city centre with Nick. Working through self-consciousness when shooting around strangers, learning to read the city for light and texture, finding the in-between moments that bring an image to life. Continuous, informal feedback throughout — nothing formal, nothing intimidating.
