Join us for a dynamic and thought-provoking workshop with London-based documentary photographer Alexis Andreou, presented as part of the exhibition THERE IS AN ISLAND and the UK Cyprus Film Festival.

Taking place just hours before the festival screenings at 4:00pm, this session offers a powerful exploration of how stories are constructed through image and text creating a bridge between still photography and cinema.

What to Expect

This interactive workshop explores the intersection of documentary photography, narrative construction, text, and the photo book format. Through presentation and practical exercises, participants will discover how photographic sequences and written language combine to create compelling visual narratives.

Drawing from his own practice investigating Cyprus’s post-conflict landscape and the lived experiences of displaced communities, Andreou will guide participants through:

• The narrative power of documentary photography
• Editing and sequencing images for impact
• Designing and conceptualising photo books
• The shifting dynamics between text and image

The workshop begins with a short presentation and continues with a hands-on group exercise. Participants will be provided with sketchbooks and text excerpts to experiment with visual storytelling. You are welcome to bring your own prints or work-in-progress, though this is not required.
