About this Event

Do you love visiting historic buildings but wish you could get better photographs?

This day workshop at All Saints North Street will introduce historic buildings as photography subjects, and how to use lighting, composition, and knowledge of the buildings to get the most out of your photographs. The course is suitable for all abilities and you can use your own camera - the emphasis is on setting up your photographs rather than on using equipment. You will have plenty of opportunities to practice your skills whilst exploring All Saints North Street, a medieval church with a wealth of historic features including its unique and stunning stained glass windows.

The workshop will be led by Rob Andrews, a keen photographer with a deep knowledge of historic buildings. Rob received a Merit in the PGDip Parish Church Studies: Heritage, History and Fabric at the University of York in 2019, having previously completed a BA in the History of Art also at York in 2016. Rob has worked as a Church Buildings Officer for the Church Buildings Council, and most recently in the Church Buildings and Pastoral Reorganisation Team at the Anglican Diocese of Leeds. Rob lives in York and has contributed to a variety of interpretation projects and assisted in the delivery of the Churches Conservation Trust's Northern heritage tours in 2018. He continues to host and lead his own walking tours of York's medieval parish churches and has previously worked as 2021 Conference Director in Leeds for the Ecclesiological Society. Since 2017 Rob has also run the @churchcrawling Instagram account and publishes his own zine about church crawling in Yorkshire.

The workshop will run in two halves: 10am - 12pm, with an hour's break before resuming at 1pm -3pm. Tea and coffee will be provided. We suggest that attendees bring a packed lunch or we can recommend local food outlets.

Most of the church, with the exception of the chancel, high altar, and anchorhold is wheelchair accessible though some floors are uneven due to the historic nature of the building. A wheelchair-accessible toilet will be available during the event. Please contact us if you have any questions about access or if there is anything we can do to make your visit more comfortable - email Ruth at [email protected].
