About this Event

Photographer and filmmaker Ami Vitale shares her personal journey—from documenting the heartbreaking realities of war to witnessing the inspiring power of an individual to make a difference. Her award-winning work illuminates the unsung heroes and communities working to protect our wildlife and find harmony in our natural world. Hear her awe-inspiring stories of saving the last of northern white rhinos from extinction, and reintroducing giant pandas to the wild, as well as the heartwarming story of Kenya’s first indigenous-owned and run elephant sanctuary.

Ami shares personal stories about individuals who, against all odds, are making a profound difference in the future of their communities and this planet. They remind us that we are a part of a complex world created over millions of years, and the survival of all species is intertwined with our own.

Here is a little synopsis of Vital Impacts

Vital Impacts is a women-led non-profit founded by National Geographic photographer and filmmaker Ami Vitale, who has been creating unique conservation stories that amplify the work of communities on the frontlines of grassroots conservation. The mission of our non-profit is to support organizations who are protecting people, wildlife and habitats.

In the first half year, with a startup grant of $25,000, Vital Impacts has raised over $1,500,000 through the sale of fine art prints. These profits went to unique conservation and humanitarian efforts around the globe including Jane Goodall's Roots and Shoots program, Big Life Foundation, Great Plains Conservation's Project Ranger and Sea Legacy.

Most recently Vital Impacts raised more than $800,000 in support of Direct Relief. 100% of profits from print sales will be donated to the foundation. This grant will provide critical medical aid to civilians caught in the Ukrainian war as well as other conflicts unfolding across the globe.

As part of programming, Vital Impacts has created a year-long visual storytelling mentorship program for 40 indigenous Kenyan conservationists who are working to protect endangered wildlife and threatened habitats in northern Kenya.

Vital Impacts is also about to announce the winners of two $20,000 environmental photography grants and a mentoring program for 50 photographers working in the environmental space.
