No technical experience needed. All you need is an open mind and a sense of curiosity.

Imagine slowing your pace on a warm summer evening, chasing light and shadow across the Barbican’s iconic architecture. Feel the sun on sunlit concrete, hear the city’s hush as we wander, and practice the art of noticing the little details most people rush past. We’ll help you reconnect with your powers of observation and creativity – think of it as a mini escape from the daily grind, camera in hand.

Along the way, the Drop the Butter team will share a few simple photography tips and tricks: how to see and play with light in new ways, how to tinker with your phone settings to make your shots shine, and how to break a few “rules” for the sake of art. We’ll even introduce you to the magic of light leaks – those dreamy streaks of light that can sneak into a photo. (Ever seen a vintage photo with a burst of glowing color on the edges? That’s a light leak! We’ll demystify it and show you how embracing happy accidents can lead to beautiful, unexpected shots.)
