Photo Movie Night: In No Great Hurry

Join us for a screening of In No Great Hurry: 13 Lessons in Life with Saul Leiter, an award winning documentary about legendary street photographer Saul Leiter, who believed in the beauty of simple things and that the most uninteresting thing can be very interesting.

In No Great Hurry: 13 Lessons in Life with Saul Leiter, (2014), directed by Tomas Leach explores the world of Saul Leiter could have been lauded as the great pioneer of color photography but was never driven by the lure of success. Instead, he preferred to drink coffee and photograph in his own way, amassing an archive of beautiful work that is now piled high in his New York apartment. An intimate and personal film, In No Great Hurry follows Saul as he deals with the triple burden of clearing an apartment full of memories, becoming world famous in his 80s and fending off a pesky filmmaker.

About the Artist

(1923–2013) was an American photographer and painter, best known for his pioneering work in color photography. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he moved to New York City in the 1940s, initially pursuing painting before discovering photography. Leiter became a key figure in early color street photography, capturing the vibrancy of urban life with poetic, painterly compositions. His use of reflections, soft focus, and muted tones set his work apart. Though he worked as a fashion photographer for Harper’s Bazaar and other magazines, his personal street photography remained relatively undiscovered until later in life. Today, Leiter is celebrated as a master of color and composition, influencing generations of photographers.
