Zoumer:
Behind the name Zoumer is singer and producer Yasmina Derradj, who has just released her sophomore album, ‘e.a.l. (euro arab lovergirl)’ - a release which sits somewhere between intimate diary and expansive, soaring fantasy.
The music gathers moods and impulses into songs, where fragments drift between the private and the outside world. Derradj builds collages of percussion, field recordings, voice notes and vocal freestyles, alongside passages of MIDI strings, recorded oud, guitar, and sampled qanun - carefully arranged without losing their original feeling.
The album draws on inspiration ranging from Sugababes to Fairuz, as well as a myriad of movies and pictures. The project began in Yasmina’s room in Copenhagen, but also contains elements from her stay in London, a residency in Paris, and several visits to Algiers.
