About this Event
“Phone, Eye, Heart: Photographing the Spirit of the Laguna de Santa Rosa”
Learn to see with fresh eyes, honor the land, and create images that tell a story
Your iPhone is more than a phone—it’s a powerful camera always with you, ready to help you slow down, notice, and create images that tell stories and preserve memories. In this workshop, you’ll learn to use it with creativity, mindfulness, and intention, while deepening your connection to this extraordinary place.
What to Expect
Part One: Mindful Seeing
In the first half of the session, we’ll cover and demonstrate:
- Settings & Controls – Adjusting exposure, focus, shutter speed, and filters
- Creative Techniques – Panoramas, macro details, close-ups, portraits.
- Artistic Vision – Using composition and storytelling to express not just what you see, but how you feel
Part Two: In the Field
The second half takes us outdoors, where the Laguna’s landscape invites us to slow down, look closer, and photograph with awareness. We will practice these techniques surrounded by the beauty and history of Santa Rosa de Laguna, honoring both the land and its stories.
This workshop is as much about mindful observation as it is about photography. You’ll leave with stronger skills, a collection of images that reflect your personal vision, and a renewed appreciation for your camera, the creative process, and the cultural and natural heritage that surrounds you.
Instructor Bios: As a husband-and-wife team, Susan & Neil Silverman have been “captured” with photography for over 25 years – teaching, leading workshops and working professionally in many venues. They have taught for the Kelby Photo Conferences, Gualala Arts Center, Santa Rosa Junior College, Pacific Northwest Art School, Point Reyes Field Institute, Great American Photography Workshop (GAPW), and Better Photo, as well as many photo clubs and organizations. Their work has been published both nationally and internationally. Sharing knowledge, experiences and camaraderie is as important as “getting the shot."
