Phoenix Writers Club Centennial Celebration
About this Event
On Thursday, November 12, 2026, the Phoenix Writers Club will host a celebration in honor of our club’s 100th Anniversary. The event (4 pm–7 pm) will be held at the picturesque North Mountain Visitor Center, 12950 North 7th Street, Phoenix, Arizona.
Our Centennial theme is “Celebrating 100 Years of Writers Helping Writers.” PWC is proud to be the oldest writing club in Arizona, having been founded in 1926 by a group of women who were denied entry to the press club because of their gender. These witty Western women found a peaceful way to promote creativity and camaraderie in the face of adversity, demonstrating tremendous pioneering spirit in establishing a space for writers. Today, women and men are members of PWC.
We are excited to welcome Alberto Ríos, Inaugural Poet Laureate of Arizona, as our guest speaker for the evening. Festivities also include a one-woman presentation by local author Bobbie Bennett, a slideshow of PWC history, and reflections on the Phoenix Writers Club through the decades. Attendees will be encouraged to dress in 1920s attire, and refreshments will be available.
