The first Phoenix Rising event in The BlackRep's 49th Season, Beats and Strings: The Soul Renaissance is an unique live music experience set in a nightclub aesthetic and performed by classical string instruments and electronic, percussive beats, featuring a string trio of Kansas City musicians: D. Dot Professor - DJ; K'Tina - Violin; and Robert McNichols, Jr. - Cello.

Launched in 2022, The Black Rep’s Phoenix Rising Performance Series honors the company's original name and its historic intention to present dance, music, and theater to showcase the power, beauty, and strength of African Americans through the lens of the African American experience. The 49th Season Phoenix Rising Performance Series is presented with support from PNC Arts Alive and NEFA.
