Maktub Arts I was founded by Wale show: a young man from Hackney. It started with a simple idea -to put on a theatre show- and has grown and revolved into a locker that focuses on creating authentic work allowing people to creatively express themselves .

After four years of training, and creating our own stories through shows such as; Brit ain’t right, Alchemy, & Ubuntu, Maktub has gone from strength to strength. Maktub theatre company has been a platform that has allowed actors to find their voice and purpose within themselves. A community was birthed that allowed creatives to grow as individuals, whereby a family was formed.

Maktub Theatre Company comes to a close with it’s final chapter…. Phoenix.

The team have been working for the past 3 months to develop a fresh and authentic play, Phoenix. Set in a bar, drama school, gym and a local estate, Phoenix explores the current issues in todays society; and highlights a range of important themes which have become more relevant throughout our time. Maktub will be the voice for these different stories that need to be heard. Phoenix will take you through and emotional rollercoaster which will allow you to laugh, cry, think and reflect through pure drama. We bring you origibal material that has never been shown before, Phoenix promises you pure talent, enjoyment and entertainment.

For our last dance as a theatre rep company we invite you to share this moment with us as we close our curtains and embark on a new journey.
