Join us for an evening with this Grammy Award-winning choir on tour from Phoenix, Arizona. The Phoenix Boys Choir is one of Arizona’s oldest and most beloved performing arts ensembles. From its humble beginnings in 1947 to the international reputation it enjoys today, this organization has touched the lives of thousands of boys and has served as an ambassador of music to every corner of the globe. (Free and open to the public.)
At the heart of the Phoenix Boys Choir’s success is our deep and ongoing commitment to serving the whole boy. We focus on choral and vocal training, musical technique and theory education, performance opportunities, and learning experiences that instill excellent musicianship. We set the bar high, and our singers invariably rise to the challenge. As a natural byproduct of that process, our choristers develop into responsible, caring, creative young people who will be our future leaders and citizens, endowed with a passion for the performing arts and community.
Members of our five performing choirs, ranging in age from seven to adult, come from throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area and represent a wide diversity of backgrounds. As a reflection of our belief that no boy should be turned away due to an inability to pay, we offer scholarships made possible through the generosity of our supporters and donors.
Today’s PBC boys stand on the shoulders of the thousands who have gone before them, building upon a legacy of dedication and success, and stepping boldly into the future that beckons.
Herbert Washington began his tenure as the Harvey K. Smith Artistic Director of the Phoenix Boys Choir in 2019. He is an alumnus of the choir, with culture and roots deeply grounded in and molded by Arizona choral pedagogy. Mr. Washington is a frequent choral clinician, conductor, lecturer, and adjudicator for festivals, workshops, and conferences around the country, and is widely recognized for his dynamic teaching style and his ability to instill a love for the choral arts.
