Phlegm-Flam-Film - New Work by Chris Merlick

MFA Gallery presents "Phlegm-Flam-Film" featuring new work by Chris Merlick. This show opens Sat Nov 7 with a reception for the artist and will run till Dec 27. Multi-disciplinarian Chris Merlick debuts his visual arts talent in this show of his photography. Chris comments: "I am a lifelong photography nerd. It compels me to notice my environment more deliberately, seeing beauty and strangeness in the world. I started shooting film in the 80s, went digital in the 2000s and spent the next two decades keeping up with technology. But now I don't want my camera making decisions for me, In 2022 my daughter expressed an interest in film photography and I found myself going back to my roots. I prefer one or two carefully composed shots to twenty frames fired in a second. Shooting film makes me slow down and pay attention. It's a more present way of seeing the world. I have a particular fondness for double exposures. I like the ambiguity and the possibilities that putting two things together can create, something neither could manage alone. In film photography the best things happen when you slow down. find your focus and give them time to develop."
