PhillyKinder presents Deutscher Familiennachmittag und Laternenumzug

Celebrate St. Martin’s Day (Martinstag), a beloved German tradition honoring St. Martin of Tours, who is remembered for his kindness and generosity after sharing his cloak with a freezing beggar.
In Germany, St. Martin’s Day is especially cherished by children, who celebrate with colorful lanterns, songs, and Laternenumzüge (lantern processions). The glowing lanterns represent bringing light into the darkness and offer a beautiful symbol of warmth, kindness, and community as winter approaches.
As every year, Philly Kinder invites families and friends to join us at the German Society of Pennsylvania for a festive afternoon and traditional St. Martin’s Laternenumzug.
Starting at 4:00 PM, families can enjoy an engaging Familiennachmittag filled with German cultural activities, fun and community for all ages.
At 5:00 PM, we will gather for our traditional Laternenumzug, walking together through the evening with our handmade, glowing lanterns and singing traditional St. Martin’s songs.
Come experience this cherished German tradition and celebrate the spirit of St. Martin through light, kindness, and community.
