As the holidays approach and the year is nearing a close, join us for our final dance of 2024 on Saturday, November 23rd. We'll have some treats to share with everyone to express our thanks for everyone's continued support of Philly Westie! So join us for our usual fun night of dancing and pre-game for the holiday season with us! And keep an eye out on our socials and website for announcements of our early 2025 dates! We look forward to dancing with you all!
-----------------------------------------------------------
⭐ So you think you have two left feet?
We got you! Come join our complimentary beginner lesson from 8pm-9pm. We'll show you which is your right foot!!
⭐ Need some hydration?
Social dancing is BYOB. You bring your elixir to stay "hydrated" and we'll provide the source of life... water
⭐ Gender identity and dance roles
As a de-gendered dance form, anyone regardless of gender identity is welcome to lead, follow, or switch! A number of us do both roles and it's twice the fun! As such, it's totally ok to dance with someone of the same gender - the only rule is: one leads and the other follows! (otherwise it won't work :))
⭐ Should I bring my entourage?
Come by yourself or with your peeps! Since west coast swing is a social dance, you'll make friends regardless if you show up solo or with your entourage!
⭐ What should I wear?
Wear whatever you are comfortable moving in. Closed-toe shoes preferred just in case you get stepped on! (this is partner dancing after all)
⭐ What are the rates?
$20 - Regular
$15 - Students
Cash or Venmo accepted at the door.
⭐ What is West Coast Swing?
West Coast Swing, also known as Modern Swing, is a super fun, super addictive form of partner dance. Originating in the 50s, west coast swing is characterized by its elastic, groovy, swanky vibe and dance partners play off of each other's creativity and improvisation with the music. It can be danced to a huge variety of music including pop, hip-hop, blues, instrumental, urban, etc.
To get a sense of what West Coast Swing looks like, here are some clips by current world champions (look how much fun they had while improvising with their dance partners and with the music!):
