“Conducted by Michael Riesman, the Ensemble was flawless; Philip Glass’s acoustic universe was palpable, the simplicity of his repetitions became anthemic and at times so touching and intimate as if the instruments were the voices of the people on screen” - stageandcinema.com
“It was reverent and wholly revelatory, a group of musicians who seemed connected through some mystical force, each reacting and responding to the others instinctually” - Beats per Minute

In the grand setting of the former Radio House on Rosenørns Allé, the ensemble will perform the iconic masterpiece Glassworks – this time without Philip Glass himself, but with his music and spirit at the center. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to step into a piece of living music history when the concert takes place at the Royal Danish Academy of Music’s concert hall this September.
PLEASE NOTE: Philip Glass himself will not appear due to his advanced age.
Since 1968, the Philip Glass Ensemble has been the beating heart of Philip Glass’ musical universe. Founded in New York as a living laboratory for his groundbreaking compositions, the ensemble quickly became the birthplace of some of the 20th century’s most influential works – from the monumental Music in Twelve Parts to the hypnotic soundscapes of the Koyaanisqatsi trilogy. Through their distinctive blend of organs, winds, and voices, they have shaped and refined the pulsating language of minimalism for decades.
Under the direction of longtime music director Michael Riesman, the dedicated ensemble continues to carry this legacy with rare authenticity and precision. Though Philip Glass does not appear, the connection to the original remains intact – making the experience all the more special. Audiences can look forward to a captivating performance of Glassworks (1982), one of Glass’ most beloved and accessible works, yet still deeply refined. With its repetitive structures, gradual shifts, and luminous textures, the music opens a meditative space where time seems to dissolve.
