Join Philadelphia Legacies for its 11th Annual Portrait & Community Awards Gala as we continue the tradition of honoring Philadelphia's legendary changemakers and leaders in order to inspire the changemakers of the future who help improve our great city. We return to The Restaurant School for an unforgettable night of celebration!

Start the evening off with a cocktail while mingling and networking with community figures from fields including government, community activism, non-profit, philanthropy, education, culture, and more.

DINNER & AWARDS

Then settle in with a delicious dinner, great live music, and participate in our marquee ceremony honoring our Portrait and Community Leadership Award winners. Be inspired by their legacy and discover how they continue to shape our city for the better. And the networking never stops!!!

And the winners are...

Portrait Awardees:

• Doug "Jocko" Henderson, Sr. (Portrait Artist: to be announced) — The Philadelphia radio pioneer known as the "Ace from Outer Space," whose rhyming, rocket-ship-riding on-air style at the Apollo Theatre made him the "Father of Rap" and a foundational influence on modern hip-hop.
• Doug Henderson, Jr. (Portrait Artist: to be announced) — Longtime WDAS-FM broadcast staple who has carried his father Jocko's legacy forward through music, mentorship, and preservation of Philadelphia's Black radio history.
• Miller Parker (Portrait Artist: Oranda Currie Johnson) — Visionary civic leader who spearheaded the creation of the Philadelphia Stars Negro League Memorial Park — now renamed in his honor — preserving the legacy of Black baseball for future generations.
• Valerie Still (Portrait Artist: Laurie Cooper) — Two-time ABL champion and WNBA pioneer who has carried both a trailblazing athletic spirit and her family's abolitionist legacy as the great-grandniece of William Still.
• Louis Massiah (Portrait Artist: Ibven Taqiy) — MacArthur "Genius" Fellow and founder of the Scribe Video Center, whose award-winning documentaries and participatory filmmaking have amplified community voices for over four decades.
• Judge Frederica Massiah-Jackson (Portrait Artist: Ibven Taqiy) — Trailblazing jurist who served 37 years on the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and became the first African American President Judge in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
