Phillip Marshall is a Rochester guitarist and songwriter who has played in local bands including the Colorblind James Experience, Lalaland, Annie Wells, Margaret Explosion, and The Fox Sisters. Since 2001 he has worked as a hospice music therapist providing support to the terminally ill and their families. Over the years he and Kinloch Nelson have crossed paths and occasionally performed together; through their mutual friendship with local guitar legend Steve Greene, the two began getting together more regularly to explore what they could create as a duo.
KINLOCH NELSON, a solo fingerstyle guitar player, performs a synthesis of folk, jazz, classical, rock, American popular music, and original compositions. His programs range from J.S. Bach to John B. Sebastian and may include references to Miles Davis, Franz Schubert, John Fahey, Leo Kottke, The Ventures, The “folk scare,” Flatt and Scruggs, and the occasional TV theme.
Kinloch Nelson began performing in 1969. His 55 years-and-counting career has run the gamut from solo classical and folk concerts in coffeehouses and folk festivals to club dates with jazz, country, rockabilly, rock, and rhythm & blues bands.
