The Phenix City-Russell County NAACP Annual Freedom Fund Luncheon, themed “Rooted in Strength, Rising in Excellence,” serves as a powerful reflection of the resilience, legacy, and forward movement of our community. This year’s theme honors the generations of leaders, advocates, educators, faith leaders, and families whose sacrifices created the foundation we stand on today, while also challenging us to continue striving for excellence in every area of service, leadership, education, business, and civic engagement.

“Rooted in Strength” speaks to the enduring history of perseverance within the civil rights movement and the continued work of the NAACP to fight for equity, justice, and opportunity for all. It recognizes the deep roots planted in Russell County and surrounding communities by individuals who refused to give up in the face of adversity. Those roots symbolize unity, courage, faith, advocacy, and the collective power of people committed to uplifting one another.

This year’s luncheon is especially significant as we welcome guest speaker Jeremy Gray, Alabama State Representative for District 83. His presence highlights the importance of civic engagement, advocacy, and representation in shaping stronger communities. As a public servant, Representative Gray brings insight into leadership, policy, and the importance of collaboration in addressing the needs of citizens across Alabama.
